This selection of paintings charts a period of stylistic transition and the development of a profound new direction in my work. From earlier pieces featuring hard-lined abstraction and geometric spaces, this exhibition shows a progression through various changes in technique, depiction and subject that have been instrumental in the development of my current body of work. The newest work, represented here by "destination (thwarted)" and "far beneath our feet the oil lies dreaming only of the stars", uses the lessons learned during this exploratory process to address similar themes in a way that I hope engages the viewer in a more meaningful manner.

In general, my work is largely concerned with the mounting difficulty that people face in developing and maintaining a direct relevance between ourselves and the world around us. I feel acutely the changes in behavior - changes in communication and understanding - that seem to be associated with a stunting of our innate ability to make sense of the natural world and to engage our fellows and neighbors as beings with meaning.

What I hope to accomplish is to focus on things or ideas that have fallen beyond the limited scope of our attention and visually reformat them in a way that points out not only their importance, but their neglect. It is my hope and belief that in making a viewer understand their own personal failing sense of interest, and thereby the broader sociocultural disinterest that surrounds us, change might be affected.

People must, I believe, come to remember that our place is in the world - and no amount of technological progress can create a more fitting environment for us.
